Author Interview Tarryn Nicole Perfectly Imperfect, The Aoki team “the best book magazine in the UK“, personal trainer and author Tarryn Nicole talks about her new book, Perfectly Imperfect, about her experiences with eating disorders, mental health, and fitness
I interviewed Author Tarryn Nicole:
Tarryn Nicole about her life and career, what inspired her to start writing, and what experiences inspired her to write her new book Perfectly Imperfect.
Tell me who you are.
My name is Tarryn Nicole. Many people knows me Author Tarryn Nicole. I am a former celebrity personal trainer, nutritionist and professional athlete. This year I published my first book called Perfectly Imperfect.
When did you first want to write a book like an Author Tarryn Nicole?
I would say about 9 years. I’ve always had a talent for writing and a love of books. I sat in my room for hours writing stories at my desk and my favorite lesson was English because we had to write and learn complicated words. I was very proud of these courses because I was very interested in them.I knew that one day I would write a real book!
When did you decide to start writing?
During the Covid lockdown. I used this time to jot down my thoughts on paper notes or iPhone lol. I wrote my book there. Lockdown meant lots of free time so I made the most of it! It was a hop on the Netflix train or a more constructive use of my time, so I decided to take the first step toward realizing one of my dreams.
How long did it take you for your first book, from idea to publication?
It took me 9 months to write my book and about 6 months to publish it in full.
What prompted you to write Perfectly Imperfect?
I had to get the story out. It was something I had held on to for a long time and felt like the time had come. I entered a new phase of life and wanted to start it with something new. Not only did I tell my story, I was willing to help others.
What were your main difficulties in writing Perfectly Imperfect?
Probably the honesty of the book. I knew it could hurt some people and maybe make them look at me differently.
How did you design the structure of Perfectly Imperfect?
I went through chapter by chapter. In this story, I went back to the beginning and brought the readers to the present, then I created a timeline. Sounds easy, but it wasn’t. I had so much information and kept coming back to add more to the chapter that I thought I was done lol.Sometimes I would write three chapters, delete them all and start over.
How long did it take to assemble Perfectly Imperfect?
Exactly I’m not sure, but like any book it had to be edited. Authors are just beginning to write. We’ll go into grammar and punctuation later. When thoughts come to mind, pop them before the thought vanishes from the horizon lol. That’s why I decided to use iPhone Notes for writing. The ideas came and I immediately had to add them to my story. The edition brings it all together!
What is the first piece of writing advice you would give someone that inspired you to write a book?
Take your time! No rush. Too many people rush into the process just to put something on paper or get authorship for a work they’re not entirely happy with. No rush. Don’t go to B until you’ve learned A.
My second book will help you achieve your dream figure through delicious food…
And finally, are you proud of your success? It was worth it?
Certainly! It’s surreal to have an author on the title, and it’s even more surreal to know that people will buy your book and read what you say. Every time I shop at the local Barnes and Noble bookstore it dawns on me that my book is there and it amazes me every time. Not only has my book helped me spread my story, but I’ve already helped so many people through my story, and that’s quite an achievement!
