Chasing The Dream, from Show Developer, Showrunner, Writer, and Creator Monica Kelley pairs celebrity mentors with raw talent from underserved communities.
Chasing the Dream
Chasing the Dream, a brand-new reality show created by industry veteran Monica Kelley, has been picked up by NBCU’s LX network and livestreamed on Peacock as a replacement for the summer of 2023. The show will premiere on NBCU-owned television stations on Saturday, July 8. From July 9 to August 27, eight episodes will air every Sunday on NBCU LX and other streaming services.
Chasing the Dream is unlike other performance-based reality shows in that it pairs participating mentees with an impressive list of high-profile celebrities who have agreed to mentor them to success. The celebrity guest stars (mentees) evaluate video submissions to select mentees from underserved communities across the country. The celebrity mentors will then surprise the mentees they have chosen and give them a personal, unimaginable chance to move forward with their goals and change their lives.
Kelley began her career at the tender age of 14, working as the youngest Production Assistant assigned to the station’s highest-rated program, Night Talk with Bob Law, at WWRL, one of New York City’s top radio stations at the time. Kelley is no stranger to the industry; she literally grew up behind the scenes.
She attended New York University’s film program after graduating from Syracuse University. Over the course of several decades, she has built up an impressive and extensive resume that includes directing the HBO documentary Songs of My People and working as a producer on HBO’s Inside the NFL. writing and producing material for the BET series 106th and Park Prime. In addition, prior to creating Chasing the Dream and securing a production deal with Sony Television, Kelley sold original shows to ABC and NBC.
Kelley explained that she has always lived a life of service to the community and other people. Taking that idea to a whole new level is her dream come true. She wanted to create something that is life affirming and showcases our better selves because we are constantly confronted with so much negativity.
