The Acting Life of Georgia Small, Actress Georgia Small talks on The Table Read, the “Best Entertainment Celebrity Magazine in the UK“, about her new film, Who Pressed Mute On Uncle Marcus?
I asked Georgia Small about her acting career and her latest project, Who Pressed Mute On Uncle Marcus?
When did you first realize that you wanted to be an actor or enjoy your Acting Life ?
Probably in the womb or shortly thereafter. It’s a bit of a calling. I really don’t have a choice, I just know that this is what I have to do with my Acting Life.
What do you like best about performing?
Presence!! Some moments of shot where we are totally present with another actor, a little bit in another dimension, but also just fully present. It’s like a high you can’t get from anything else. And I love the audience comments; in the theater when you step out and feel the energy of the audience holding you a seat.
Oh, and if I may say one more thing, I love costumes and craziness.
What courses or training did you attend to support your Acting Life career?
I trained at the renowned National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. I had to keep pinching myself and Acting Life to get in. Since my stay in London I have attended many courses and workshops. I’ve also played Anthony Miendel, it’s a very different acting technique than drama school – I think it’s an incredible extension of my abilities.
What was your first professional acting job?
short film! Called Baby Grand – you can see it online now. It was a really good and pleasant experience: I was very excited to get paid for every day I worked. The crew were amazing and felt like family but on a weekend. I’ve never been paid, I’ve always worked for free and tried my best to make it happen!
Tell us who silenced Uncle Marcus? Something that stands out in your memories and makes you want to find more experiences like this.
How organized was the technology! We sent these cool tech boxes home with crazy instructions on how to build our entire custom kit. Someone walked us through all aspects of the setup – I had cables running through about 3 different rooms in my apartment.
When you make an interactive feature film, you are not just an actor! You are the director, the lights, the sound, the art director, the costumes, the first commercial – everything!! It’s very special and gives you the most amazing appreciation for everyone’s role on the set.
I’ve always admired everyone on set and how they know what they’re doing, but it’s allowed me to truly experience each job, if only for a little while!
Tell us something that surprised you that you didn’t know how to be a professional actor?
I never realized how hard it is to get an audition! I always thought everyone auditioned all the time, but I’m learning that just getting a taping call is a great first step!
What advice do you have for other aspiring actors?
research.Proof. Proof. Find out as much as you can about everyone and everything that’s happening in your industry. I contacted all the casting directors in London and had some great auditions before even finding an agent. Finding all my work myself has helped me get noticed by my awesome Twitter agents!
